Edmond Mayor/Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner-designee Patrice Douglas Addresses The Rotary Club Of Edmond

We are in for a special occasion this week as Edmond Mayor Patrice Douglas speaks to the Rotary Club of Edmond. Notice I did not say that she will visit the Rotary Club of Edmond: Patrice is an outstanding member of our club, who was inducted into our membership six years ago this week.
Patrice is in her second term as Edmond’s mayor, and I think all would agree she has done an outstanding job as our city’s leader. Soon, however, she will be leaving that post and taking statewide office as one of Oklahoma's three Corporation Commissioners.
Those of us who know Patrice well realize Governor Mary Fallin made an excellent choice when she named our fellow Rotarian to the Commission. Patrice puts into daily practice the Rotary Motto, Service Above Self. We have all seen Patrice exemplify the Four-Way Test while leading our city, and look forward to her doing so in her new position, as well.
What do you know about the Oklahoma Corporation Commission? It is a constitutional agency with statewide jurisdiction. Its three members are among the ten state officials elected on a statewide basis (the others – Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, State Treasurer, State Auditor, Insurance Commissioner, Labor Commissioner). Patrice will be the fourteenth person to hold seat three on the Commission.
According to its website, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission “regulates public utilities, except those under municipal or federal jurisdiction or exempt from regulation; oil and gas drilling, production and environmental protection; the safety aspects of motor carrier, rail and pipeline transportation and the environmental integrity of petroleum storage tank systems.” It also enforces “regulations for underground injection of water and chemicals, underground disposal of certain oil and gas waste fluids and remediation of soil and groundwater pollution caused by leaking petroleum products storage tanks.”
As Edmond’s Mayor, Patrice has championed the creation of a Small Business Task Force, launched a youth volunteerism program, stood firm to reinstate the senior meal program, and led the effort to partner with private and public entities to build Oklahoma’s largest competition swimming pool complex. Earlier this year, she received the Kate Barnard Award for Outstanding Public Service in Oklahoma.
Patrice received her undergraduate degree from Oklahoma Christian and her law degree from the University of Oklahoma. She practiced law full time for 13 years until she joined her family business, ACP Sheet Metal, which she served as Vice President and General Counsel. She leads the Edmond commercial team for First Fidelity Bank, and was appointed to the Oklahoma Bankers Association Board of Directors in May, 2011.
Her husband of 23 years, Brent Douglas, is a strategic planning consultant. Patrice and Brent have two sons, Patrick, who is 16 years old, and Phillip, who is 13 years old.
Please welcome Mayor Patrice Douglas to the Rotary Club of Edmond.
