Kimray Board Chairman Tom Hill Puts Character First at the Rotary Club of Edmond

Tom Hill, Chairman of the Board of Kimray, is also Founder and President of Character First! and the Character Training Institute, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing materials and training for families, schools, businesses, and other organizations interested in building good character.
Kimray is a manufacturer of control valves and related equipment for oil and gas producing companies. Founded in 1948, Kimray employs more than 400 people in a facility of 275,000 square feet.
“Character First! began at Kimray. According to the Kimray website, “Since all lasting achievement is rooted in good character, encouraging and building good character helps individuals and families reach their full potential. Successful families lead to successful businesses, communities, and even countries.” The Character First website adds that its “materials describe good character and talk about the attitudes a person needs in order to improve relationships and make ethical choices.”
Recently, Hill released a book called Making Character First. It details Kimray’s transformation to a culture of character. The book also contains a roadmap for others to transform the culture of any organization into on that puts character first.
Hill served in the United States Marine Corps, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He later graduated from Oklahoma State University, receiving the St. Pats Award, the highest honorary recognition in the College of Engineering, and the Outstanding Electrical Engineer Award.
He has served as a director or trustee of several organizations, including Oklahoma Baptist University, the Institute in Basic Life Principles, Scope Ministries International, and Oklahoma City YMCA. Hill was the Oklahoma Central Baptist Association Christian Citizen of the Year in 1998, received the Great Patriot award in 2008 from the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge and the Valir Health Community Award, and was given the George Washington Award by the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge in 2009.
Tom and his wife Kay have been married since 1963. They have three married children and twenty grandchildren, andare active members of Western Hills Church in Oklahoma City.
Please welcome Tom Hill to the Rotary Club of Edmond.
